Or just call 907-463-5704 . The calendar’s made it clear—the dark and cold days of winter are officially behind us. We no longer have to dream about better weather—it’s here! Truth is, when I write this quarterly column, a bit of time elapses before it becomes the back cover of House Calls . Since a number of great events will happen between when this is written and the day you’ll get to read it, I thought I’d highlight them: X X In mid-March, the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation helped fund the inpatient obstetrics seminar and exam. Labor and delivery nurses from Bartlett, Ketchikan and Sitka, as well as flight nurses, participated in a review seminar and certification exam to obtain advanced certifications. It also provided an opportunity to share local best practices—and to discuss problems and solutions, as well. X X Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Phil and Grace Edelman Health Scholarships, awarded annually to students from our region pursuing postsecondary studies in the fields of health. X X Art in the Halls was hung in mid-April when the Bartlett Foundation partnered with home and charter schools to display student art at the Bartlett Regional Hospital Gallery and then within the hospital’s departments. Our young artists and their parents were on hand to enjoy the art—as well as cookies, lemonade and certificates. We’d also like to give a special shout- out to the Rie Muñoz Gallery, which donated new frames for 30 of the 40 pieces of student art featured in the exhibition. X X Our Wildlife Cruise, thanks again to the generosity of Allen Marine and the Scrubs “Pop Up” Sale, once again helped support the Foundation’s efforts. These annual fundraisers kick off our summertime fundraising, which concludes with our newest event, The Wild Beast Feast. The all-you-can-eat Feast, where two whole pigs are roasted according to my dad’s secret recipe and served with all the fixings, is our way of saying thank you to our donors. María E.
