False Outer Trail (North Douglas) Trail has access to the beach. This trail also connects with Bluff Trail, Outer Point Loop Trail, and Rainforest Trail. Trailhead: 11.5 Mile North Douglas Highway Length: 0.5 miles Elevation loss: 30 feet Auke Lake Trail (Auke Bay area) There are children’s interpretive signs along the trail. Trailheads: 11.3 Mile Glacier Highway or 1.2 Mile Mendenhall Back Loop Road at Goat Hill Road Length: 1 mile Elevation gain: 30 feet Kaxdigoowu Héen Dei (Mendenhall Valley) Also known as the Brotherhood Bridge Trail, this trail is paved and ADA- accessible. Trailheads: Brotherhood Bridge parking lot, the end of River Road, Thunder Mountain High School Length: 2.1 miles Elevation gain: nearly level Treadwell Mine Historic Trail (Douglas) You can see interpretive signs and ruins from the gold mining operation that began in the 1880s. Trailheads: Savikko Park and the end of St. Ann Avenue Length: 2 miles, loop Elevation gain: 40 feet The beauty of living in both the nation’s largest national forest and the world’s last remaining temperate rainforest is that it’s right outside the door. This summer, make a commitment to immerse yourself in nature on one of these trails, maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department of the City and Borough of Juneau.
