FAMILY: Baby Fathom with (from left) her grandmother, Carolyn Jarvill; her dad, Robby; her five-year-old big sister, Olivia; her mom, Bonnin; and her grandfather, Gary Jarvill. “Building that tiny boat in my woodshop gave me time to reflect on how much of an honor it is to be with so many families during one of the most special times of their life: childbirth. Thanks to all who let me be a part of that experience for the past 24 years.” —Lindy Jones, MD BABYOF www.bartletthospital.org 3 BARTLETT BEGINNINGS BABY TALK Bartlett Beginnings welcomed the first baby of the year on Jan. 2, 2018! Baby girl Fathom Jarvill was born at 6:39 p.m. to Bonnin and Robby Jarvill. She was 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 21 ¾ inches long, and delivered by Nicholas Newbury, DO. This fishing family was presented with a very special gift—a life-size wooden baby boat and rocker, hand-carved by Lindy Jones, MD, who is retiring from Valley Medical Clinic. Dr. Jones will continue to work in the Bartlett Regional Hospital emergency department. The Jarvills had high praise for the expertise of Dr. Newbury and Bartlett’s caring nursing staff. “The staff made us feel incredibly comfortable and they give us lots of time,” says Bonnin. “The best thing was bringing our five-year-old, Olivia, too. The nurses took her under their wing and she was with her little sister every step of the way. She got to give Fathom a bath with the nurses and she asked them a zillion questions about getting little Fathom’s foot pricked and the hearing test. Olivia immediately took over the boat and has already traveled the world several times in it with her sister.” Fishing and family Like doctor/craftsman Lindy Jones, Bonnin’s father is also a finish carpenter and wood craftsman. Bonnin and Robby are both in the commercial fishing industry. Robby is also a Glacier Valley swim team coach. He was raised in Sitka, one of three boys who are all salmon fishermen. In fact, all were welcoming or awaiting new babies that week. Grandparents Carolyn and Gary Jarvill (Robby’s parents) were in town for Fathom’s birth. Gary is a math and science teacher at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela on the Big Island. Carolyn is a labor and delivery nurse at North Hawaii Community Hospital in Kamuela. “Our experience at Bartlett Beginnings couldn’t have been better,” says Carolyn.
